SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER/ ESTIMATOR

United Employment is seeking a senior project manager/estimator in the Pacific Northwest.

Description:

In partnership with the Director of Project Management, the Senior Project Manager/Estimator will work with internal detailing staff and outside consulting engineers to develop and communicate schemes for precast components. The Senior Project Manager/Estimator will ensure the overall success of projects under his/her supervision by preparation of accurate and timely take-offs and bids based on an analysis of the company’s cost history, current market conditions and the complexity of each job.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage multiple projects in different phases of completion.
• Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget.
• Review postings for requests for bids and prepare estimates for projects.
• Review projects with Project Coordinators and/or Project Manager/Estimators to determine if the bidding process should proceed.
• Oversee contract review and negotiate contracts.
o Set payment expectations; administer contracts, insurance, offsite UCC, and prevailing wages.
• Review contract documents and bid acceptance with consideration for special drafting requirements.
• Participate in Project Manager/Estimator project meetings, site visits, plant meetings in a support role.
• Prepare monthly progress billings and request appropriate assistance on payment collection when required.
o Review team’s monthly billings as necessary to determine appropriate percentages to bill each month.
• Conduct a review of each completed job using job cost analysis to determine ultimate profitability.
• Work proactively with engineers, architects, and potential customers to provide consultations/perspectives on current and future projects.
• Contribute to the expansion of the Project Management and Estimating team.
• Work with the Director of Project Management to continue to develop standards and training tools for the Project Management and Estimating Department.

• Actively participate in professional development organizations, internal and external committees and company meetings as requested.
• Foster positive communications and relationships with colleagues, the Project Manager/Estimator team, customers, vendors, etc.
• Keep up to date on industry trends and developments and attend conferences as necessary to develop new and innovative thinking for prospective business.
• Adhere to company policies and procedures, as well as industry standards.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives through appropriate channels in the operation.
• Work with a sense of urgency without allowing things to become a crisis.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical education with Project Management experience.
• Five (5) + years of demonstrated success with estimating, take-offs, bid preparation and project management in construction or similar industry.
• Proven working experience as a project manager in the concrete pre-cast sector.
• Prior experience successfully selling to and negotiating with customers, vendors, and subcontractors in the construction industry.
• Strong written and oral communication skills including active listening skills and the ability to negotiate to win/win solutions.
• Computer experience with Excel spreadsheets, data analysis and “number crunching”, MS Word for correspondence, documentation, and customer interface.
• Familiarity with architectural and structural drawings.
• Well developed ability in spatial reasoning and visualization.
• Ability to manage others.
• Organized, detail-oriented, creative problem solver.
• Excellent mathematical skills including ability to create and/or work with geometric and algebraic equations.
